I have problem with sending e-mails from GW to one domain.
I have response from GWIA:

Transcript of session follows:
Command: ds25.ae.wroc.pl
Response: 450 MX lookup failure (ds25.ae.wroc.pl)
I test domain (ds25.ae.wroc.pl) with dnsstuff.com and find:
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=ds25.ae.wroc.pl&type=MX
and
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/mail.ch?domain=test%40ds25.ae.wroc.pl

GWIA could not send mail to this domain, but other servers (I tried 3
different) sends e-mail with no problem.
Why GWIA not sending e-mails, and other servers send?

Thanks, Jan

Yes, there is no MX record, but I find this informations:

1.“If you do not have an MX record, mail addressed to a host should be
delivered to the host itself by default. (If 'example.com' has no MX
records, sending mail servers will try to connect to 'example.com' to
deliver the messages.) “
2.When an e-mail message is sent through the Internet, the sending mail
transfer agent makes a DNS query requesting the MX record for the
recipient's domain name, which is the portion of the e-mail address
following the "@". This query returns a list of host names of mail exchange
servers accepting incoming mail for that domain, together with a preference
number. The sending agent then attempts to establish an SMTP connection to
one of these servers, starting with the one with the smallest preference
number, delivering the message to the first server with which a connection
can be made. If no MX records were present, a second request is made for
the A record of the domain instead.

I think, that GWIA only try to find MX record.
If no MX record, GWIA generate error message.
But why GWIA not finding A record, and delivering e-mail messages with A
record addres?

Thanks, Jan

Hi,
1.“If you do not have an MX record, mail addressed to a host ***should*** be
delivered to the host itself by default.
...
I think, that GWIA only try to find MX record.
If no MX record, GWIA generate error message.
But why GWIA not finding A record, and delivering e-mail messages with A
record addres?
Because the RFC says *SHOULD*, not *MUST*, e.g sending to the A record
when no MX exists is *optional*. Or in other words, a domain which has
no MX records doesn't want email.
