552 5.6.0 Header too large (32768)
(too old to reply)

I have a user sending a message to 1100 internet addresses. They receive
undeliverable messages back for 200 of the addressees. The message
returned contains the following error:552 5.6.0 Header too large (32768).

Is this caused by the receiving email system not allowing receipt of
large headers?

Is there a workaround(GW6.5)? How does the GWIA process the outgoing
message: 1 message to 1100 recipients or 1100 individual messages?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yes. But...

It's one message per individual receipient *domain*. So if all 1100
users are on the same domain, it's only one message, if they are all on
different domains, it's 1100.

... but, your user isn't actually putting all these receipients in the
TO or CC field, does he? It sure sounds like he does, and that will
cause some *major* uproar as in that case all the users can see every
other receipient email address in their receieved message, and many
users really don't like that.

Would he put the users into BC, the header issue wouldn't happen, as
other BC'd users don't get transferred.

CU,
